Paris, Flammarion, 1977 - book in wrappers - 8vo - 1290 euro Copy of the first edition of the French translation of The Philosophy of Andy Warhol: from A to B and back again, first published two years earlier. The first blank page shows an ORIGINAL SKETCH in black feltpen, roughly but accurately depicting one of the artist's most iconic images, a Campbell's soupcan, SIGNED BY ANDY WARHOL. The top of the page shows a short dedication to the former owner (not visible above, please click HERE for a full image of the page): a well known Flemish/Dutch actor, who acquired the piece during a signing session held on occasion of an exhibition at Guy Debruyn's Gallery D., Brussels, Belgium, May 26 1977. The book has not been preserved too well (front of cover dog-eared, cellophane partly loosening, edges somewhat soiled) but the dedication page with the charming drawing (sheet size 20 x 14 cm, image size 16 x 14 cm) is still in clean and bright condition. | ||

The front of this card shows a printed invitation to an “End of the Summer Extravaganza” to be held at the legendary New York STUDIO 54 nightclub on September 3 [1982]. From the former collection of New York gossip reporter/party promotor/author/photographer BAIRD JONES (1955-2008), added are an invitation for another event plus a fine example of a numbered golden Studio 54 VIP ticket (5 x 11,5 cm), issued in the late 1970’s/early 1980’s. NB: The STUDIO 54 logo was designed by Gilbert Lesser. Promo copies all came with a promo sticker on the front, a lips-and-tongue-logo-sticker with track-listing on the back. This rare item has been finely SIGNED BY ANDY WARHOL in black feltpen on the front. Good copy, with innersleeve, showing the usual light damage (nothing severe) to the vulnerable die cut front, some heavier imperfections to the spine. Ignoring the utterly rare MONO promo issue, this is as CLOSE as one can get to Warhol’s original Sticky Fingers art work. | ||
